Cambodia, Vietnam to Strengthen Cooperation in Transnational Crime

PHNOM PENH: After meeting with former Prime Minister Hun Sen the day prior, Vietnam’s Minister of Police, Lt. Gen. To Lam, met with Prime Minister Hun Manet on January 24, 2024.

The Vietnamese Minister pledged continued cooperation with Cambodia in maintaining national security by fighting transnational crime and drug trafficking among others. He echoed the sentiments expressed in his meeting the previous day and said that Vietnam is ready to expand cooperation in politics, economy and trade as well.

The Vietnamese Minister of Police reaffirmed the Vietnamese side's commitment to further strengthen and expand cooperation in all fields between the two countries, especially in the fields of politics, economy and trade in the bilateral framework. Such as multilateral.

He also stressed the need to expand digital cooperation between Vietnam’s Ministry of Police and Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior of by sharing information and exchanging lessons learned in the digital sector. He noted that Vietnam is already cooperating in the digital sector with Singapore and Malaysia.

Prime Minister Hun Manet praised the cooperation in all fields between the two countries and their security ministries. He welcomed the expansion of cooperation in the digital sector, in which the Vietnamese side will share its experience with Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior.

The two sides also welcomed the further strengthening and expansion of cooperation in building human resources through training and exchange of participants of the two countries in the fields of national security and public order.
